Liverpool have reportedly joined Real Madrid in the race to sign 26-year-old Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano.
According to a report by German outlet BILD, Liverpool will compete with Real Madrid for Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano. The former RB Leipzig centre-back has had a mixed spell at Bayern Munich since joining the club for a fee of around £38 million.
Even though there is no doubt that the Frenchman has the quality to compete at the highest level, he can be quite inconsistent and erratic. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool decide to make a move for him in the coming months.
It is no secret that they need quality defenders. The in-demand Ibrahima Konate may leave when his contract expires in the summer of 2026, and Giovanni Leoni is out with a long-term injury. They have been reduced to just three central defenders right now. It will be interesting to see if they can sign a quality defender when the transfer window opens in January.
Liverpool need a quality defender
Liverpool have been heavily linked with the Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi. The 25-year-old England international is a quality player, and he came very close to signing for Liverpool on deadline day. However, the move collapsed in the end after Crystal Palace failed to find a quality replacement for him.
Guehi’s contract with the South London club expires in the summer of 2026, and Liverpool will be hoping to sign him for a reasonable amount of money in January. Upamecano would be a quality addition as well, especially if he can remain consistent.
The opportunity to join the Premier League champions will be quite exciting for the defender. He could use a fresh start and a move to the Premier League will be exciting. Meanwhile, Real Madrid are interested in the player as well.
Los Blancos need defensive depth, and the French defender could be a useful acquisition for them. Given his performances at the Bavarian club, he might be available for a reasonable amount of money. It will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually.
