Mouhamed Dabo could be on the verge of joining Manchester United after a successful trial, thus potentially snubbing Barcelona in the process.
According to Africa Foot, Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Senegalese teenager Mouhamed Dabo after a successful trial. The 17-year-old midfield prodigy also had a short internship at Barcelona, although he is now considered close to making his move to the Red Devils.
Manchester United have stayed active in the African markets over the course of the previous year, and now they appear to have unearthed another gem. Last year, they signed Sekou Kone from Guidars FC in Mali, and now, they are on the verge of acquiring a Senegalese midfield talent from the country’s Be Sport Academy.
The player in the spotlight is 17-year-old Senegalese midfield prodigy Mouhamed Kone, with the profile indicative of someone who could be an all-phase midfielder in the future. He has clean tackling, vision, composure, ball control, leadership, relentless work, progressive passing, and pace control, as per the report, which has impressed the club in a big way.
Dabo completed his trial at Carrington over the recent period, and he has thoroughly impressed the coaching staff there. That, in turn, has resulted in the club accelerating their decision to sign the player from Be Sport Academy, with the next steps expected to follow soon.
Manchester United are not the only team interested, with the 17-year-old African midfield prodigy also spending time at Barcelona. Dabo completed a one-month internship, and there, too, he impressed the coaching staff. While the Blaugrana have not rejected the idea of signing him yet, it appears Manchester United are making plans to get a deal done and bring the player in for the future.
Manchester United are making midfield plans
There is enough focus on adding prodigal talents to their squad and have the chance to develop their midfield for the future. However, Manchester United are also focused on their current setup and will attack the January market for a new midfielder, with names like Carlos Baleba still linked.
Adam Wharton is another one on their list, while Lucien Agoume was also mentioned multiple times in reports. Either way, Manchester United are expected to find the right player that improves their midfield setup ahead of the winter transfer window, which will boost their chances of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season.
