Tyrell Malacia will not join Elche as talks collapse

Tyrell Malacia will be unable to make his switch to Elche in La Liga after talks with Manchester United failed to reach the required conclusion.

According to The Athletic, Elche and Manchester United have failed to conclude talks for the transfer of Tyrell Malacia. The left-back is still waiting to leave the Red Devils as he’s not seen as a part of Ruben Amorim’s side moving forward, and now a move to Spain is potentially ruled out.

Tyrell Malacia’s potential exit from Manchester United has come into jeopardy following the club’s failure to agree a deal with Elche. The Spanish side were keen on the left-back, who has been left out of Ruben Amorim’s plans for the season.

The left-back is part of the infamous ‘bomb squad’ at Manchester United that included Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Antony. At the time of writing, all four of those stars have found a solution to their immediate future, apart from Malacia.

Malacia was poised to join Elche, with the two clubs discussing terms over a move. However, it appears Elche and Manchester United could not agree on a buy option clause, as the left-back’s deal expires in 2026. The Red Devils could still extend his contract by another year through an option at their disposal.

For now, the 26-year-old Manchester United wide man is not expected to join Elche before the deadline, although one cannot rule out a late move yet. As things stand, the prospect of a move away from Manchester United looks extremely difficult owing to the time remaining in the window.

Does Tyrell Malacia have other options?

Earlier in the summer, the 26-year-old Manchester United wide man received interest from some clubs. Celtic were interested, but the prospect of regular football looked remote for the left-back as the club had just signed Kieran Tierney from Arsenal, with the Scottish international widely considered as the starting left-back.

AS Roma briefly held an interest, but that was no more than a soft enquiry for the left-back. There might be a small chance that some club comes in late with an interest in taking the defender, and given the limited time left in the window, the probability of a permanent deal seems improbable.
