Youssef Chermiti closing in on £10 million move to Rangers

Youssef Chermiti closing in on £10 million move to Rangers.

Everton attacking prospect Youssef Chermiti is reportedly closing in on joining Rangers in a £10 million deal, including add-ons.

Rangers are on the verge of completing a significant attacking addition, with Everton forward Youssef Chermiti close to finalising a permanent move to Ibrox in a deal worth up to £10 million.

According to The Athletic, the package will consist of an initial £8 million fee, rising to £10 million through add-ons, while Everton have secured a sizeable sell-on clause that will entitle them to a percentage of any profit Rangers make on a future transfer. Talks initially focused on a potential loan, but the financial terms of the permanent move proved too tempting for both clubs.

The move comes as Everton continue to reshape their squad under David Moyes. The Toffees are keen to bring in new reinforcements, with midfield additions reportedly a priority before the window closes. For Chermiti, limited opportunities at Goodison Park have made a departure inevitable.

Youssef Chermiti: A rising prospect

The 21-year-old arrived from Sporting CP in 2023 for a fee of €12.5 million, plus €2.5 million in add-ons, signing a four-year deal. Despite his promise, Chermiti never truly settled into the Everton first team. Across two seasons, he made 24 appearances but started only once in the Premier League and failed to find the back of the net.

He has also been left out of Moyes’s plans this season, not featuring in the Carabao Cup win over Mansfield or in the Premier League victory against Wolves. That exclusion paved the way for Rangers to step up their interest and open the door for a move north.

Rangers in need of inspiration

Rangers’ pursuit of Chermiti has been accelerated by the departure of Hamza Igamane, who joined LOSC Lille on Friday after a prolific 2024/25 season. The Moroccan forward’s exit left Russell Martin’s side in urgent need of attacking firepower, particularly with the club’s stuttering start to the campaign.

Following a heavy 9-1 aggregate defeat to Club Brugge in the Champions League play-off round, Rangers must now regroup as they turn their attention to domestic competition and the Europa League. Securing Chermiti represents a statement of intent from a club determined to challenge rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

For Chermiti, the move offers a chance at revival. He has represented Portugal up to under-21 level and is still viewed as a player with significant potential. Working under Martin and reuniting with Kevin Thelwell, who brought him to Everton two years agom could provide the stability he needs to flourish.

With the first Old Firm derby of the season over and ending in a goalless draw, Rangers will hope Chermiti can quickly adapt and provide a spark in front of goal to help their cause this season.
