Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are not ready to meet Wolves’ asking price for Norwegian striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.
According to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Newcastle United are keen on acquiring the services of Jorgen Strand Larsen, but they are not willing to meet Wolves’ demands for the Norwegian striker. While Wolves are not actively looking to sell the 25-year-old, they would be willing to let him leave for close to £70 million.
Strand Larsen made a name for himself at Celta Vigo before joining the English club last summer. The Norwegian striker had an impressive debut campaign as he bagged 14 goals and four assists in his 35 league outings.
While it was an initial loan deal, the Black Country outfit made it permanent this summer for around £25 million. Thanks to his impressive performances last season, Jorgen Strand Larsen is now a key part of Vitor Pereira’s plans.
However, multiple top clubs are interested in signing the 25-year-old. Newcastle United are one of the clubs that are keen on having the Norwegian striker in their ranks. While the Magpies continue to insist that Alexander Isak is not for sale, they are actively looking to sign two number nines before the end of the window.
The Magpies were quite impressed with Jorgen Strand Larsen’s performance last time out and have already tabled a £50 million offer. Newcastle United offered Wolves to secure a 100% profit on their £25 million investment from his sale, but they turned it down.
Newcastle United are unlikely to sign Strand Larsen
Vitor Pereira’s team are unwilling to negotiate Jorgen Strand Larsen’s departure, and with his contract running until 2029, the report suggests they would only consider a sale for around £70 million, the same figure Manchester United paid to sign Matheus Cunha.
While the Magpies have Strand Larsen quite high on their wishlist, they have little ambition of making such an offer. They are unlikely to return with an improved offer this summer.
Wolves’ financial demands too seem to be a touch unrealistic given they have just signed him for £25 million. The Tyneside outfit will most likely shift their focus towards other targets. But with the transfer deadline fast approaching, the 2024/25 EFL Cup winners surely do have a race against time.
