Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are ready to make an offer as they look to beat Aston Villa to the signature of Samu Aghehowa.

According to a report from Football Insider, Newcastle United have stepped up their pursuit of Samu Aghehowa. Eddie Howe’s team are all set to table an offer for the Spanish international, as they look to finally add a new striker to the mix.

The Magpies have been in the market for a new number nine since the start of the summer. While they have been linked with quite a few top strikers, nothing concrete has happened thus far. However, it seems they have finally found an ideal fit in the 2024 Paris Olympics gold medalist.

On the back of an impressive loan spell at Deportivo Alaves, FC Porto secured Aghehowa’s services last summer from Atletico Madrid. The Portuguese giants were quite confident about the 21-year-old’s ability and his massive potential; as a result, they decided to bet on him.

The move has certainly worked out in their favour, as he was involved in 45 matches last season and finished with 27 goals and three assists. The Spaniard has already started the new season in fine fashion with two goals in his opening league fixture.

Premier League clubs battle it out for Samu Aghehowa

Samu Aghehowa’s impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed, as multiple top clubs are keen on securing his services. Aston Villa and Newcastle United are two English clubs that are interested in signing the Spanish striker.

While the youngster still has four years left on his deal and is quite happy at the club, FC Porto fear they could lose out on one of their most exciting talents in the final weeks of the window. Aston Villa are interested in his services, but Newcastle United seem to be the favourites to secure his signature.

The Magpies want a new number nine on a priority basis following the departure of Callum Wilson and the uncertain future of Alexander Isak, who is adamant that he won’t play for the Tyneside club again after being denied a summer move to Liverpool.

Before they can sanction his departure, Howe’s team needs to bring in a replacement, and Aghehowa can certainly help their cause. Porto are preparing to listen to offers from the Magpies. While Aston Villa are also keeping a close eye on him, they will struggle to compete with Newcastle.

Eddie Howe’s team will have to break the bank

A report from Jornal de Notícias via Sport Witness has suggested the Tyneside club could table an offer in the region of €60-65 million plus bonuses. However, that may not be enough, as Aghehowa is protected by a €100 million release clause.

While celebrating one of his goals in their first league outing, the 21-year-old pointed to the Porto badge and was heard saying he is staying. As a result, a transfer certainly won’t be straightforward, but according to O Jogo via Sport Witness, if Newcastle come in with an offer close to €100 million, things could change quickly.
