Liverpool have opened talks with Crystal Palace for the signing of Marc Guehi this summer, with personal terms in place.
According to The Athletic, Marc Guehi is the next big signing that Liverpool plan to make, as talks with Crystal Palace are already underway. Personal terms with the defender appear to be in place, as the Merseysiders could pay a fee of around £35 million for the FA Cup winner.
Liverpool are set to finish the transfer window with a few more key additions than they have already made this summer. Arne Slot’s side have spent big on players like Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong, while they could still sign Alexander Isak to further strengthen their attack.
However, they still have issues with central defensive depth, with the Community Shield loss to Crystal Palace, and the lack of backups on the bench was a big indicator of the problem. Liverpool are actively trying to solve these by signing players, as they are heavily linked with Giovanni Leoni from Parma.
The big central defensive signing seems to be 25-year-old FA Cup winner Marc Guehi, as Liverpool were expected to resume talks with Crystal Palace for the defender. It appears, conversations with the London side are underway as the Merseysiders might end up paying a total package of £35 million for the England international.
David Ornstein of The Athletic did mention that Guehi might seek assurances over game time, which, given the World Cup is around the corner, makes perfect sense. Palace have already identified a few options to replace him, with Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior high on their list.
Marc Guehi agrees on personal terms
Fabrizio Romano reported that Guehi already has an agreement on personal terms with the move, inching closer to completion. The two clubs appear to have accelerated talks to get a deal done, as Guehi is keen to leave for the right project and further his career.
The 25-year-old FA Cup winner is into the final year of his deal, which does leave Palace at the risk of losing him on a free transfer next summer. For now, everything points towards an imminent switch to Liverpool, where he will compete with the likes of Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk for a place in Arne Slot’s central defence.
