West Ham United are looking at Roberto Piccoli as a potential striker target, with the attacker ready to leave Cagliari this summer.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness, West Ham United are interested in Cagliari striker Roberto Piccoli this summer. The Hammers are looking for goalscoring options in this window, as the ready availability of the Italian forward might pique their interest.
West Ham United have been a bit quiet in this window, but Graham Potter’s side are expected to make their presence felt in the market. The Hammers need to strengthen several key positions of their squad, first to add quality, then to replace some of their departees.
One of the key positions in Potter’s mind is the goalkeeping one, with the club severely lacking the numbers in that department. Despite having three experienced forwards to take the No.9 role, none have convinced to any degree that they can provide a consistent level of goals.
Hence, there are links to Inter Milan’s Mehdi Taremi among others, as Potter wants to bring someone with decent experience as well as prowess the score regularly. Callum Wilson is also being heavily linked with a move, although the manager would also want a younger option there.
Former Atalanta man Roberto Piccoli is the latest name on their list, with the new Cagliari signing one to look for. After failing to find a clear breakthrough at the Bergamo side, the 24-year-old Italian striker spent the previous season with Cagliari to good effect as he ended with 10 goals to his name.
Roberto Piccoli is ready for a new challenge
Cagliari wasted no time in securing the 24-year-old Italian striker on a permanent deal after exercising their buy option on the loan deal for €12 million. They are already attracting offers from teams like West Ham, with the Serie A side currently valuing Piccoli at around the €30 million mark.
The striker is also open to exploring a new challenge. Now, whether West Ham feels the price point is fair for the 24-year-old Italian striker remains to be seen. However, the lack of clear-cut experience at the top level might be a source of concern for the Hammers, but they might see the current fee as an investment of sorts, especially if Piccoli ends up becoming a prolific marksman in the Premier League.
