John Dodds set to join Everton

Everton reportedly have an agreement in place to sign Hearts’ teenage defensive sensation John Dodds this year.

Everton are gearing up for a new era under The Friedkin Group. The Merseyside club are set to move across Liverpool to their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, and since it will be Dan Friedkin’s first summer transfer window, he is expected to back David Moyes all the way.

While there is still a lot of time left for the window to reopen, Everton have already made a big statement by winning the race for a Scottish defensive sensation. According to a report from Football Insider, Moyes’s team have agreed a deal to sign Hearts defender John Dodds.

Everton win race for Dodds

The Scottish Premiership club have accepted Everton’s bid and the player has also given the green light to the move. Dodds has made quite a name for himself while playing for Hearts’ youth teams. While he is yet to make his first-team debut, his performances at the youth level had put him on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in England.

The Toffees were keeping a close eye on the highly rated centre-back for some time, and they have finally managed to strike a deal for his signature. While other top clubs were after him, Moyes’s men have beaten the competition.

They have convinced both the Scottish club and the player about the move. The teenager is all set to be a part of their setup starting next season. He will start with their youth teams and could feature for the Under-18s as well as the Under-21s. Given his massive potential, they are hoping he could break into the first team in the near future.

While Dodds is not yet ready for first-team football, he can certainly prove to be a great acquisition in the long run. They might have tasted success in this instance but there is still a lot that needs to be taken care of.

Nine of their players could leave for free this summer, and a further five players could leave following the end of their loan deals. Everton will certainly be in the market for quite a few players as they look to start off a new era in fine fashion under Moyes.
