Barcelona target Luis Diaz is willing to force his way out of Liverpool if contract renewal talks don’t go according to plan.
According to a report from Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Luis Diaz could end up pushing for a move away from Anfield this summer. While the Colombian international has been an integral part of their first team under Arne Slot, he could still seek an exit amid interest from Barcelona if his contract situation remains unresolved.
Diaz has only gone from strength to strength since joining Liverpool at the start of 2022 from FC Porto. The 28-year-old was a key figure in the team under Jurgen Klopp, and it did not take him long to impress Slot, who took over last summer.
The former Porto winger has been involved in a total of 42 matches in the ongoing campaign, and he has contributed towards 18 goals. Despite having an important role under the Dutch manager, the Colombian international could still look to secure a move away in the summer because of his contract situation.
He will only have a year left on his deal in the summer, and his agents have been pushing for a new deal for some time. They wanted a new, revised contract for their client last summer, but things did not go according to plan.
Diaz’s agents are now desperate for a new deal, and they feel he certainly deserves one on the back of his performances this term. They have informed people at Anfield that he will seek an exit if a new contract does not materialise.
Barcelona receive boost in their pursuit of Diaz
While the Reds are open to a renewal, there has been zero progress in talks with the player’s representatives. Barcelona could look to make the most out of this situation. The Catalan giants are long-term admirers of the Colombian, and their sporting director, Deco, is the one pushing to sign Diaz.
Barcelona see this as a great opportunity to further bolster their attack. Meanwhile, the player would also be open to a move to the Spanish giants. His agents have already informed the Reds that the Catalan giants are keen on signing him.
While Liverpool value the 28-year-old, he is not their priority at this stage as they are fighting hard to keep Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk at the club with their contracts running out. With Diaz ready to push for a move, it is certainly one to keep an eye on over the next few weeks.
