Arsenal and Celtic in talks over Kieran Tierney transfer

Arsenal offer €47 million to sign Chelsea target Riccardo Calafiori, told to pay more.

Arsenal and Celtic have engaged in talks regarding the future of Kieran Tierney, although there’s a strong chance the defender stays.

According to TBR, Arsenal and Celtic are discussing a potential move for Kieran Tierney before the current window shuts. While the Gunners were open to letting him leave this month, things changed with their thinking following Oleksandr Zinchenko’s links to Borussia Dortmund.

Arsenal fans are frustrated due to a lack of signings this month when it’s evident the club needs attacking reinforcements immediately. Mikel Arteta has seen his attacking options depleted by the serious injuries to Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus, although some movements are happening on the defensive side.

While the Gunners are no closer to signing a player, there are some reports about a potential departure or two from their defence. Borussia Dortmund are interested in Oleksandr Zinchenko, and since they have missed out on the signing of Chelsea’s Renato Veiga, the Ukranian is now considered an important target.

Selling Zinchenko does not particularly deplete Arsenal’s left-back options, particularly after the emergence of Myles Lewis-Skelly and the presence of Riccardo Calafiori. However, offloading the Ukranian as well as Kieran Tierney would leave them in a risky position with regards to defensive depth, as the club may have had a rethink on the latter’s situation.

Tierney was set for departure after Arsenal’s decision not to trigger a contract extension in his deal. Many reports have constantly stated a January move as the big possibility; things are looking different, as Celtic seems like Tierney’s preferred destination

Arsenal in talks with Celtic

Tierney left Celtic in a £25 million deal back in 2019 and has since made 128 appearances for the Gunners. Injury problems have mired his time here, although he has proved to be a good player whenever fit. Arteta rates Tierney, and with Zincheno’s potential departure likely to happen, he may keep the Scotsman until the end of the season.

Arsenal and Chelsea have held talks over a move, and while Tierney wants only Celtic, he might not force a move through. Of late, Arteta has selected him in games as a substitute, and could continue to do so until the end of the season in place of Zinchenko, meaning he could stay put until the summer when he can leave on a free transfer.
