Antony on the verge of sealing loan move to Real Betis

Real Betis are inching close to signing Manchester United ace Antony on loan for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Antony is on the cusp of leaving Manchester United to join Real Betis on loan for the remainder of the 2024-25 season. The two clubs are in advanced discussions over the move, as all parties are on the cusp of a verbal agreement.

Antony remains one of the talking points about Manchester United’s previous regime. The Brazilian winger was an expensive acquisition at the request of former manager Erik ten Hag, who has utterly failed to justify the reported £86 million or so the Red Devils paid Ajax for him.

His place in the first-team squad has come into question this season. He has made only eight substitute appearances in the Premier League this term. Six of those have come under new manager Ruben Amorim, who has predominantly used him as a right wing-back in his system.

Antony is among those players Amorim feels has no place in his squad. The club has been looking to find a solution in the market. Manchester United are now in talks with Real Betis over a move, with Antony seemingly open to the idea

Real Betis have been hopeful of sealing an agreement, with the two clubs now in advanced talks. According to Fabrizio Romano, they are on the cusp of a verbal agreement. Antony was part of the squad for their loss against Brighton, with the Brazilian coming off the bench, probably for the final time this season at Old Trafford.

Is Real Betis the right move for Antony?

The winger has fallen off entirely since making the big move to Manchester United two and a half years ago. Amorim does not rate him, and his game time could diminish further as the season progresses. The long-term view clearly states he’s not a player the club would like to back upon for the future, as they may find a permanent solution next summer.

For now, the January window usually represents a difficult market to sell players permanently. Hence, Betis might have taken advantage of the situation to add to their attacking setup. For Antony, this might be a good move if he can force his way into Manuel Pellegrini’s starting lineup for the remainder of the season and improve his game and confidence.
