Erik ten Hag could have a big say on Manchester United’s pursuit of RB Leipzig full-back David Raum next year.
While it is still initial days for Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford, he has already started examining his squad as they prepare for the upcoming transfer window. The former Sporting CP boss wants to reinforce the left-back position on a priority basis. According to a report from The Sun, Manchester United are interested in the services of RB Leipzig star David Raum.
While the Premier League champions are looking to knock on the doors of the Bundesliga club, the Red Devils could face a massive roadblock in former boss Erik ten Hag.
The Dutch tactician could end up becoming the next RB Leipzig manager which will complicate Manchester United’s pursuit of the 26-year-old German international. Raum has been a part of the Leipzig setup since the summer of 2022. He has gone from strength to strength over the years and has established himself as one of their most important players.
Manchester United keen on signing Raum
David Raum’s contract with them runs until the summer of 2027. However, there are clubs who are looking to prise the £35 million-rated defender away from the Bundesliga club in the near future. Manchester United are the ones who are quite serious about their pursuit of David Raum.
Amorim wants a new left-back on a priority basis as Luke Shaw has once again picked up an injury and Tyrell Malacia has recently made a comeback after being on the sidelines for a long period of time. The 26-year-old German defender is a perfect fit for the Red Devils as he can feature as a full-back as well as a wing-back.
Erik ten Hag could prove to be a roadblock
Raum has enough experience of playing at the highest level and could do wonders for Manchester United. But, they will find it difficult to secure his services as his Raum’s future may rest on Erik ten Hag who was shown the exit door by the Red Devils in October.
Marco Rose is under pressure at RB Leipzig, and he could soon be sacked. If they do part ways with him, Ten Hag is the most likely candidate to replace him. He could link up with former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, who is now an adviser to Red Bull-owned clubs.
If Erik ten Hag takes charge at RB Leipzig, he will have a huge say in their transfer dealings. He might not sanction the departure of a key figure like Raum, especially not the employers who axed him.
