Arne Slot’s Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of RB Leipzig summer signing Lutsharel Geertruida.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Liverpool are looking to prepare for life without Trent Alexander-Arnold and they have identified Lutsharel Geertruida as an ideal replacement. The Reds are looking to knock on the doors of RB Leipzig to sign the Dutch full-backs.

Alexander-Arnold’s contract at Anfield runs out at the end of the season and there is a real threat of him leaving the club as a free agent. While the Reds are pushing hard to extend his stay and they are confident that he will put pen to paper, it is a race against time.

Liverpool are ready to make him the highest-paid player at the club to ensure he signs a new deal before the turn of the calendar. However, with Real Madrid pushing hard for his services and the player eligible to open pre-contract talks with foreign clubs from January 1st, the odds are stacked against the Reds.

Geertruida to reunite with Slot at Liverpool?

The Merseyside club have been preparing plans to successfully replace their academy product if he decides to leave as a free agent. Their sporting director Richard Hughes has been working hard to identify potential replacements. He has prepared a shortlist and RB Leipzig’s Lutsharel Geertruida is one of the names on that list.

The 24-year-old defender was a part of the Feyenoord setup and he had a lot of success under Arne Slot at the Dutch club. The Liverpool boss is a big admirer of his former player and would love to reunite with him at Anfield. He feels Geertruida’s ability to feature in the heart of the defence as well as on the flank could do wonders for his team.

Since he is only 24, the Dutch international will only get better with time. But, the Reds won’t find it easy to sign him in 2025 as he made the move to Leipzig in the summer and they won’t let him leave on cheap with his contract running until the summer of 2029.
