Liverpool will have to fork out a significant fee to sign Olympique Lyon attacking sensation Rayan Cherki in the winter transfer window.

Rayan Cherki’s future was a massive talking point throughout the summer. He was linked with a move away from the club and with his contract running out in 2025, Olympique Lyon were ready to sanction his departure. Things didn’t go according to plan back then and he ended up signing a short-term deal.

But, his future hasn’t been sorted yet. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder could still be on the move in the upcoming transfer window. According to a report from FootMercato, Liverpool are keen on signing the French youth international and they have been made aware of what needs to be done to bring Cherki to Anfield.

The Lyon graduate has been a part of their first team setup since the start of 2020 and he has been on the wishlist of multiple top clubs since the start. While Cherki did go through a rough patch, the versatile forward who can feature on either flank as well as a number ten is slowly getting back to his best.

While he is a key figure at Lyon and he did extend his stay until 2026 after a failed summer move, the French giants are not in the best of financial situation and they could look to cash in on him at the turn of the calendar.

Lyon have raised their asking price for Cherki

With him entering the final year of his contract, Lyon were ready to sell him for €15 million during the last window. But, since Cherki penned a new deal and he is back in form, they have set an initial asking price of €30 million.

The French giants are looking for a fee of around €30 to €35 million to part ways with their academy graduate and Liverpool have been made aware of the requirements. The Reds are interested in his services as they want to add more firepower to their attack.

The Merseyside club are looking to prepare for life without Mohamed Salah and Cherki could surely help cope with his absence. He could be their next big star and his ability to feature anywhere in attack will give Arne Slot a lot of tactical flexibility. The 21-year-old’s future will most likely be decided in the winter as he has also changed his representatives.
