Newcastle United have turned down a €10 million bid from South American giants River Plate for their outcast Miguel Almiron.
According to a report from Soy del Millo, River Plate are looking to reinforce their squad in the upcoming transfer window and they are interested in the services of Miguel Almiron. They have already had a €10 million bid rejected from Newcastle United and have learned the figure they will have to put forward to get a deal over the line.
Miguel Almiron made a name for himself while playing for Atlanta in the Major League Soccer. On the back of his performances, he secured a move to the Premier League at the start of 2019.
He went from strength to strength after joining the Magpies and became one of the key figures in their team. While he was an important first-team player until last season making 45 appearances and racking up over 2,700 minutes for first-team action, the Paraguayan international has gone down the pecking order.
Eddie Howe no longer banks on him as he has only been on the pitch for 254 minutes across his seven appearances. The Tyneside club where ready to sanction his departure in the summer for the right price and their stance hasn’t changed.
River Plate learn Almiron’s asking price
River Plate have emerged as a potential destination for Miguel Almiron, who is capable enough feature anywhere in the final third. The Argentine club want to bring in someone who can help revive the club, and they feel the 30-year-old right-winger has it in him to help them get back to their best.
The Paraguayan international has been a massive River Plate fan since his childhood days. People in his family are very connected to the club and he would be open to playing for them. While the South American giants did submit a €10 million offer, Newcastle have turned it down as it doesn’t meet their expectations.
The Tyneside club are ready to sell but a potential transfer will require a few between €12 to €15 million. While it is a considerable figure, River Plate can afford to get a deal over the line for the Newcastle star who still has quite a few years left in him.
