Arne Slot’s Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of Nottingham Forest defensive sensation Murillo.
Liverpool are looking to reinforce their backline on a priority basis and they are looking at potential candidates who can bolster their squad. According to a report from CaughtOffside, the Reds are keen on bringing Murillo to Anfield after the Brazilian centre-back has impressed with his performances for Nottingham Forest.
The 22-year-old centre-back arrived in the Premier League during the summer of 2023 after making a name for himself during his time at Corinthians.
He has hardly had any problems adjusting to life in the English top flight and has only gone from strength to strength over the last 18 months.
He has established himself as one of the mainstays at Nottingham and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed. Murillo is on the wishlist of some of the biggest clubs in the world and they could soon try to lure him away from the Tricky Trees.
While his contract at Nottingham runs until the summer of 2028, they won’t find it easy to keep hold of their star if a big club comes knocking and the player expresses his desire to make the switch.
Murillo could move to Anfield
Liverpool are one of the clubs who have been linked with Murillo on quite a few occasions. The Reds have been doing wonders under Arne Slot and one might think that they do not need any reinforcements.
But, they do find themselves in a tricky position with their skipper Virgil van Dijk’s contract running out. They are keen on extending his stay and at the same time, they are preparing for life without the Dutch international.
They have identified Murillo as an ideal long-term replacement for Van Dijk who has been their go-to man at the back for years. While he could be the perfect replacement for the former Southampton star, the Reds will go after his signature irrespective of the future of their skipper.
Even if he ends up penning a new deal, the Merseyside club would look to add the Brazilian defender to bolster their backline. He could partner the 33-year-old in the short-term before taking his place in the starting XI.
