Liverpool will not find it easy to sign Real Madrid midfield mainstay Aurelien Tchouameni during the winter transfer window.

According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool will find it very difficult to sign Aurelien Tchouameni in January. While the Reds have a long-standing interest in the Real Madrid star and considering pushing for his signature in the upcoming window, they could be priced out of a move.

Tchouameni has been on the Merseyside club’s wishlist since his emergence at Monaco. While the Reds wanted to sign him back in the day, they failed to get a deal over the line and Real Madrid managed to beat the competition to acquire his services in a deal worth around £85 million.

The French international has gone from strength to strength since moving to Spain. He has helped Los Blancos win the league as well as the Champions League. The majority of his appearances have come in the midfield but he has also started in central defence when needed.

While Tchouameni has done most things right and has established himself as a key player under Carlo Ancelotti, the 24-year-old has been at his best in the 2024/25 season and there has been a lot of talk about his future.

Certain reports suggest Real Madrid will be open to a potential departure of the French midfielder. Liverpool who have had him on their radar since his days at Monaco have emerged as a potential destination.

Signing Tchouameni will be difficult for Liverpool

The Reds wanted to sign a new number six in the summer and pushed hard for the signature of Martin Zubimendi but they couldn’t get a deal over the line. Arne Slot’s search for a defensive midfielder continues and Liverpool are considering making a move for Tchouameni in January.

But, the report suggests they will not find it easy to strike a deal with Real Madrid for the former Monaco star. Los Blancos might be open to a potential transfer but they will demand a significant fee to part ways with the 24-year-old whose contract there runs until the summer of 2028.

Madrid could price Liverpool out a potential move in January as Ancelotti might not way to weaken his squad mid-season. They have been struggling on the pitch and are unlikely to let go of a key player unless they get a significant fee and have a replacement lined up.
