Newcastle United are ready to rival Aston Villa and Liverpool for the services of Sevilla defensive sensation Loic Bade.
Newcastle United’s search for a new centre-back continues after they failed to land one in the summer. According to a report from TBR, the Magpies are interested in the services of Loic Bade and they have entered the race for the signature of the French defender who is also on the wishlist of Liverpool and Aston Villa.
Eddie Howe was keen on reinforcing his backline during the summer and Newcastle’s director of football, Paul Mitchell did push hard to bring Marc Guehi to the club. But, he failed to get a deal over the line as Crystal Palace stood firm on their demands and rejected multiple bids from the Tyneside.
Mitchell failed to land a replacement in time and they will now look to reinforce their back line in 2025. While Guehi is still on their wishlist, he is also looking at alternatives that could help their cause. People at the club admire Sevilla’s Bade and the Magpies seem to have joined the race for his signature.
The French centre-back did have a short stint at Nottingham Forest back in the day. But, that loan spell was terminated abruptly as he failed to make any appearances for them. He moved to Sevilla in 2023 and has only gone from strength to strength since.
Loic Bade could soon move to the Premier League
He has been a consistent performer for the Spanish club and did put up impressive performances for France at the Olympic Games where they ended up winning silver. His work has put him on the radar of Newcastle who seek defensive reinforcement.
Although the Magpies still face some financial constraints, they aim to balance the books by funding the new acquisition through the potential sale of Kieran Trippier and Miguel Almirón. They will face competition from Liverpool and Villa.
The Merseyside club are looking for a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk whose contract is expiring while Unai Emery seeks more quality at the back as he looks to help Villa be competitive on multiple fronts. Meanwhile, Sevilla will be open to selling their defensive ace for a fee less than his current €60 million release clause in January.
