Sevilla are interested in securing the services of Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga on a permanent basis.
According to a report from Fichajes, Sevilla are considering permanently signing Albert Sambi Lokonga who is on loan from Arsenal. Although the Spanish side hold a buy option, they are looking to negotiate a lower fee.
Sambi Lokonga made quite a name for himself while coming up the ranks and playing for the first-team of RSC Anderlecht. He was expected to be the next big star in Belgian football and his phenomenal rise resulted in a £17.2 million move to the North London club in 2021.
The move to Arsenal hasn’t really gone according to plan for him. He has only had limited opportunities and hasn’t been able to establish himself in Mikel Arteta’s team. In recent years, he has had loan spells at Crystal Palace and Luton Town and currently, he is on a season-long loan at Sevilla.
Sevilla want to sign Lokonga for less than €12 million
Unlike the previous two temporary switches, the move to the Spanish outfit has a buy option worth €12 million. Sevilla will have to option to trigger it and sign him on a permanent basis. Sambi Lokonga’s performances will have a massive say on whether García Pimienta’s team do end up signing him.
For now, they are very much interested in having him in their squad for the long run. They want to sign him but not at the price set by Arsenal, Sevilla want to re-negotiate the price upon the expiry of his loan spell. They feel they can acquire his services for an even lower price making the most out of the 24-year-old’s expiring contract.
The Belgian international will only have 12 months left on his deal next summer and Sevilla are planning to make the most out of it to secure a cut-price deal. While the early days at the Spanish club have been marred with injuries, he has made a promising start and if he manages to showcase his talent over the next 10 months, the former Anderlecht sensation could get an opportunity to revive his career away from London.
