Takehiro Tomiyasu turns down Inter Milan, wants Arsenal stay

Arsenal, Manchester United ahead of Real Madrid in Sandro Tonali race.

Takehiro Tomiyasu has no intention of leaving Arsenal in January and has reported rejecting Inter Milan’s overtures in the process.

According to Inter-Live, Takehiro Tomiyasu has reportedly rejected the idea of joining Inter Milan in January, as he’s happy at Arsenal. The Japanese defender has a big role to play under Mikel Arteta, as he returned to action last weekend after another sitting out the entire part of this season with a new injury.

Takehiro Tomiyasu has gradually become an important part of Mikel Arteta’s side despite his many injuries since joining the club in 2021. The Japanese defender has had numerous fitness issues along the way and has missed the entire part of this season so far with a fresh knee injury picked up in training during pre-season.

He only returned to action against Southampton at the weekend, and Arteta will hope he maintains his fitness for the foreseeable future. The Japanese international is not regarded as a sure starter on this Arsenal side. Still, he plays a lot of games, providing an interesting tactical choice for the manager.

Arsenal were reportedly open to selling him in January, according to some stories published during his injury spell earlier. However, on paper, he still remains an important part of Arteta’s plans, as one would expect him to feature regularly in some capacity at the back, either in the full-back roles or centrally.

Arsenal are not interested in selling Tomiyasu in January despite reports stating otherwise, as Arteta wants to continue using him as the season progresses. The team needs players like the 25-year-old Arsenal utility man, who is entirely happy with his surroundings and hopes for an injury-free season.

Tomiyasu rejects Inter Milan

Inter Milan were interested in signing Tomiyasu because of the tactical choices he brings to the backline and their need to add a new defender. The Nerazzuri are eager to retain their Serie A title and had eyed the 25-year-old Arsenal utility man as an option as some of their current stars are out of contract at the end of the season.

While Inter Milan were understood to be leading the race, it appears that Tomiyasu has rejected their overtures as he decides to stay at Arsenal. The report insists that the Japanese star will be a bit-part player, although Arteta has always picked Tomiyasu with regularity whenever he has been fit to play.
