Real Madrid hatch ploy to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold

Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid have a plan in place to sign Liverpool defensive sensation Trent Alexander-Arnold for free.

Real Madrid are keen on reinforcing their backline. They will look to bring in a few central defenders as well as full-backs to freshen things up at the back and Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of their priority targets.

According to Marca via SportWitness, Los Blancos have devised a plan to sign the English international. The Merseyside club’s defensive mainstay’s contract is running out and the Spanish giants are looking to make the most out of it.

Alexander-Arnold has come up the ranks at the Premier League club. He has been a part of their first team since the summer of 2016 and has been integral to all the success they have had.

While he is one of the first names on their teamsheet, the 26-year-old’s long-term future is uncertain. His contract runs out at the end of the season and there is a risk of him leaving as a free agent.

Real Madrid who are looking to freshen things up at right-back with Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez on the wrong side of 30 have a plan to bring the Merseyside club graduate to Madrid.

While he is their top target, they are willing to play the waiting game. Los Blancos haven’t contacted the player or his agents and they will wait until January to see if he pens down a new deal with Liverpool. If Alexander-Arnold doesn’t, they will make an offer to acquire his services for free next summer.

Carvajal’s injury has complicated things but Madrid will decide on whether to sign a full-back mid-season depending on how Vazquez performs over the next months. A potential move to the Spanish capital for the Liverpool mainstay depends on him arriving on a free transfer and on his salary demands.

The £180,000-a-week star has an excellent relationship with Jude Bellingham which could help Madrid secure his services. With the signing bonus and agent fee unlikely to be a problem, Los Blancos will be hoping he doesn’t end up signing a contract extension.
