Arne Slot’s Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of Crystal Palace attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze.
While everyone expected the post-Jurgen Klopp era to be quite difficult for Liverpool, they have made an exceptional start to life under Arne Slot. The Reds sit at the top of the Premier League but they are still looking for ways to further bolster their squad and according to a report from Football Insider, the Merseyside club are working on a deal to sign Eberechi Eze.
The English attacking midfielder has taken his game to another level since joining Crystal Palace in the summer of 2020 from QPR. He has gone from strength to strength with every passing season and has established himself as one of the most exciting talents in the English top flight.
Eze was linked with a move away from the Eagles throughout the summer. There was a £68 million release clause and multiple top clubs wanted to sign him but nothing concrete happened. Palace owner Steve Parish was surprised to see that no club knocked on his doors.
While he didn’t leave in the recently concluded window, Eze is expected to be on the move next summer when the release clause will reactivate. Liverpool have emerged as a potential destination for the 26-year-old.
Liverpool see Eze as a better option than Szoboszlai
The Reds do have a quality attacking midfielder in their squad in Dominik Szoboszlai but they seem keen on bringing in Eze as a potential replacement. While Szoboszlai is three years younger than the English international, the Merseyside club view the Palace star as a more creative option with a better end product.
While the Eagles have struggled to get going in the 2024/25 season, Eze has still been a standout performer for them. He is just one of the three Palace players to score a goal. The 26-year-old has touched the ball more times than any other of their attacking players. He has created 12 open-play chances and has won 14 fouls.
Szoboszlai has also created 11 chances but he is nowhere close to Eze in other aspects of the game. Slot’s team feel the English attacking sensation who can feature as number 10 as well as on the flanks could be a great upgrade. The Reds are working on a potential deal and could soon knock on the Eagles’ door.
