Liverpool boss Arne Slot is keen on acquiring the services of Crystal Palace defensive sensation Marc Guehi.
According to a report from Football Insider, Arne Slot is keen on reinforcing his backline after deciding against signing a central defender in the recently concluded window. Liverpool are interested in Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi who seems to have won over the Dutch manager with his consistent performances.
Guehe’s future was a major talking point throughout the summer on the back of his heroics for Crystal Palace last season and his work for the English national team at Euro 2024. The 24-year-old English defender was on the wishlist of quite a few top clubs but the Eagles managed to keep hold of their star.
Newcastle were the ones who gave it their all to sign him. But, it still wasn’t good enough. Liverpool were also linked with the former Chelsea academy star as they wanted to sign a new central defender. But things didn’t go according to plan as they never actively pursued the deal.
Arne Slot’s preferences were the major reason they didn’t put their foot on the accelerator. The Dutch manager wanted a left-footed centre-back to provide cover and competition for Virgil van Dijk.
Their defensive mainstay is already 33 and with his contract running out, the Merseyside club need to prepare for the long run. Despite Guehi’s top-level performances, the Reds didn’t make a move for him in the summer because Slot had other ideas.
Arne Slot is now keen on signing Marc Guehi
But, it seems the Dutch manager is changing his stance as he has received a lot of positive feedback about the Palace defender from the scouts of the Merseyside club. He is now willing to incorporate the English international into his squad. They do have a chance to secure his services as the player is all set to decide on his future in 2025.
Liverpool are long-term admirers of the 24-year-old centre-back but they are not the only ones keen on his signature. They will face significant competition from other top clubs in the country. The positive shift in Slot’s perspective suggests that Liverpool could soon approach Crystal Palace to inquire about securing Guehi’s services.
