Liverpool and Newcastle United defensive target Marc Guehi will make a decision regarding his future in 2025.

Marc Guehi’s future was one of the biggest talking points throughout the summer. The Crystal Palace defensive sensation was linked with a move away from the club with Newcastle United and Liverpool pushing for his services but he ended up staying with the Eagles. According to a report from CaughtOffside, the English international will make a decision regarding his figure next year.

Things might not have worked out for Guehi at Chelsea but the move to Palace helped him secure regular first-team action. He has gone on to establish himself as one of their mainstays and his consistent performances have helped him break into the England national team.

The 24-year-old centre-back had an exceptional 2023/24 season and he carried his form into Euro 2024. His performances put him on the radar of clubs like Liverpool and Newcastle United. While he ended up staying with the Eagles, both clubs retain interest in his services and could return for his signature next summer.

Liverpool & Newcastle retain interest in Guehi

The Magpies were the ones who went all out to secure his services. Eddie Howe’s team were keen on defensive reinforcement and they submitted multiple offers to strike a deal with Palace. But, the Eagles held firm on their £70 million asking price which Newcastle were not willing to meet.

The Tyneside club’s interest in Guehi hasn’t gone away and they will return for his signature next summer. Liverpool were also linked with him during the summer and they surely need signing a world-class defender as their mainstay Virgil van Dijk’s long-term future is uncertain.

His contract runs out next summer and more importantly, he is in the final phase of his career. He could still pen down a new deal with the Merseyside club but he is already 33 and won’t be around forever. As a result, the Reds need a new centre-back and Guehi could be an ideal long-term replacement for the Dutch international.

The 24-year-old Palace defender is not going to force his way out but he remains open to considering his options in 2025. While he will still cost a fortune next summer, the transfer process which be much easier as he will only have a year left on his deal.
