Crystal Palace have bid accepted to sign Maxence Lacroix

Crystal Palace are on the verge of securing the services of VfL Wolfsburg’s defensive star Maxence Lacroix, with their bid now accepted.

Crystal Palace are looking to reinforce their defence before the end of the transfer window. The Eagles want to bring in a young centre-back who can help them in the short as well as the long run, and VfL Wolfsburg’s Maxence Lacroix is one of the names on their wishlist.

The Eagles had tabled a bid to sign the 24-year-old and according to a report from Football Insider, the Bundesliga club have accepted Crystal Palace’s offer for the services of the French defender. If everything goes according to plan, Lacroix could soon be seen playing in the Premier League.

Maxence Lacroix came up the ranks at FC Sochaux before making the move to Wolfsburg in the summer of 2020. He has gone from strength to strength since moving to Germany and has been one of the mainstays at the club. But, with his contract running out in 12 months time, his future has been quite uncertain.

Crystal Palace agree deal to sign Lacroix

The player does not seem to be keen on a new deal as he seeks a new experience elsewhere, and Crystal Palace are ready to provide him with that opportunity. The Eagles recently parted ways with one of their defensive stars, Joachim Andersen, who has completed the move to Fulham.

While they have already signed Chadi Riad, the Eagles need more depth and quality as they only have four centre-back options at present. With Marc Guehi’s future also uncertain amidst interest from Newcastle United, there could be a situation where Oliver Glasner is forced to have a completely new centre-back partnership.

As a result, they are making moves with that in mind. Crystal Palace consider Lacroix to be an ideal fit in their system and have already agreed on terms with Wolfsburg for his services. The 24-year-old has worked under Glasner in the past, and the Palace manager feels he could help them keep things tight at the back.
