Nottingham Forest fail with £25 million bid to sign Eddie Nketiah

Arsenal have turned down Nottingham Forest’s £25 million bid for the services of their academy graduate Eddie Nketiah.

Nottingham Forest are looking to reinforce their attack before the end of the transfer window and they are interested in the services of Eddie Nketiah. According to a report from The Sun, the Tricky Trees tabled a £25 million bid for his services but it has been rejected by Arsenal.

Nketiah left Chelsea to join the Gunners in the summer of 2015. He went up the ranks at some pace and has been with their first team since the start of 2019. While he has shown great promises and has chipped in with important performances every now and then, the 25-year-old has not been able to establish himself as a regular under Mikel Arteta.

He signed a new five-year deal back in the summer of 2022. But it seems he has gone further down the pecking order of late. Last season, he only started ten Premier League games, and he is yet to start a game for them in 2024. While the Englishman still has three years left on his deal, he is keen on making a move away before the end of the window.

Nketiah was closing in on a move to Marseille. He had already agreed personal terms last week, and both clubs were in negotiation over a loan move with an obligation to buy. But, the negotiations eventually broke down as Arsenal were looking for £30 million while the French club were only willing to pay £25 million.

After the move broke down, Nottingham Forest saw an opportunity and decided to make a move in an attempt to reinforce their attack. While they have already added quality on the flanks, they want a new number nine and went ahead to table an offer worth £25 million plus add-ons.

But, even they have suffered a setback as the Gunners have turned it down. Arteta’s team have no intentions of lowering their asking price. As a result, Nottingham will have to step things up if they want to sign the Arsenal graduate. Talks regarding the potential exit for Nketiah continue, and it will be interesting to see if the Tricky Trees return with an improved offer.
