Barcelona hesitant to sell Andreas Christensen, deal might be possible for €30 million-plus

Newcastle United have been linked with a move for the Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen.

The Magpies are looking to improve their defensive unit this summer and they are keeping tabs on the Denmark international, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The 28-year-old defender has done quite well for the Spanish club since joining them and they are not too keen on sanctioning his departure this summer. However, an offer of over €30 million could be enough to tempt them into selling the former Chelsea defender.

Christensen could prove to be a quality addition for Newcastle and he would help them tighten up defensively. He would be a cheaper alternative to Guehi as well. The Crystal Palace defender has been outstanding in the Premier League but he will cost a premium.

Christensen would be a superb addition

The Denmark international has played in the Premier league before with Chelsea and he has the quality to make an instant impact at Newcastle as well. The Magpies will be hoping to secure Champions League qualification this season and they need quality additions. They will have to plug the weaknesses in the squad and signing a quality central defender should be one of their priorities.

The Barcelona defender could form a solid partnership with Sven Botman and Lloyd Kelly at Newcastle. The reported asking price seems reasonable for a player of his experience and quality. He could easily justify the investment in the coming seasons. Newcastle are one of the wealthiest clubs in the world and they have the financial resources to get the deal done as well.

Barcelona are going through financial difficulties right now, and it is no surprise that they would be tempted to sell the player for an offer in excess of €30 million.

Meanwhile, the former Chelsea defender is a versatile player who can operate as a full-back as well as a defensive midfielder. He could be an asset for Newcastle if they can get the deal done.

It remains to be seen whether Newcastle follow up on their interest with an official offer to sign the player this summer.
