North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham are waiting for the price to drop in their pursuit of Brentford star Ivan Toney.
Ivan Toney’s future is still up in the air with less than two weeks remaining in the transfer window. The English international wants to join a bigger club, and there is interest in his services from Arsenal as well as Tottenham. But, according to a report from HITC, the North London clubs are waiting for Brentford to lower their £50 million asking price before making a move.
Toney has not looked back since joining the Bees in the summer of 2020. He has established himself as one of the mainstays in the team. While he did miss the majority of last season because of a ban, the 28-year-old returned to action at the start of the year and even managed to be in Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2024.
Brentford would love to have the English international around for as long as possible. But with his contract running out in 12 months, they are not in the best of positions. More importantly, the player wants to make a move, as he wants a new challenge at a bigger club, with Chelsea and Manchester United recently linked.
With his contract running out, Ivan Toney seems to forcing his way out. He was left out of their squad for their first Premier League fixture of the season, with Thomas Frank suggesting he could be leaving soon.
The Bees are ready to negotiate his departure, but they are not willing to accept anything less than £50 million for their star striker. While there has been a significant amount of interest in his services, no interested club is willing to meet Brentford’s demands.
Arsenal, Tottenham are interested in Toney?
Time is running out and Toney’s future remains undecided amidst interest from the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham. Both North London clubs have been tracking him for a long time. They consider him to be an ideal number nine for their club and given his track record in the English top flight, any top team could bet on him.
However, both clubs have been playing the waiting game. They are waiting for the Bees to lower their demands of £50 million because if they fail to sanction his departure in two weeks, they could eventually lose out on him for free. So far, Brentford have not changed their stance, but things could change as we slowly move towards the deadline day.
More importantly, Tottenham have already signed Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth for a club-record fee, and they are unlikely to push for another striker. But, the same cannot be said about the Gunners as Mikel Arteta wants to have a prolific striker in his squad who can score more often than his current options.
