Fabrizio Romano comments on Jakub Kiwior future amid exit links

Fabrizio Romano has insisted Jakub Kiwior’s departure from Arsenal before the window shuts is highly probable as he is surplus to requirements.

According to Fabrizio Romano on Caught Offside, Jakub Kiwior could still leave Arsenal before the transfer window shuts, with the defender surplus to requirements at the Emirates. The 24-year-old has been a decent performer since his arrival 18 months ago, as the arrival of Riccardo Calafiori makes his presence redundant.

Jakub Kiwior to leave Arsenal?

Jakub Kiwior was an interesting buy by Arsenal back in January 2023 when they were chasing the title and needed cover at the back. The 24-year-old has been solid, if not spectacular, and has adapted to multiple roles as a defender under Mikel Arteta’s management.

He can play in either centre-half role, and last season, he proved himself a good handler of the left-back slot. Kiwior played a lot of games in a stretch that coincided with Arsenal’s terrific form since the start of 2024. But things have drastically changed for the Polish star.

While he has not been a bad performer, Arsenal were willing to sell him should a sizeable offer arrive. The decision conicided with their pursuit of Riccardo Calafiori, with the Italian international already ahead in the pecking order under Arteta, meaning they may not need Kiwior.

They have already told Kiwior to find a new suitor, and he was missing from the squad at the opening game of the season against Wolves. Fabrizio Romano insists there is a big possibility of the 24-year-old leaving before the window shuts, although he did not name any interested parties.

Romano said, “There’s a serious possibility for Kiwior to leave, but my sources guarantee that as of today, there will be no concrete talks with any particular club. It’s not the case of one specific club already being in negotiations for Kiwior at this moment. My understanding, though, is that Kiwior would love to return to Italy.”

Kiwior has a good market

During the summer, Arteta would have pondered about which of his surplus options would have a market. As it stands, Kiwior has a better market for his profile than Oleksandr Zinchenko, with the Ukrainian international also providing the manager with a different style of play.

As Romano suggests, Kiwior might prefer a move back to Italy, where he knows Serie A and can benefit more from the intensity of the game there. Hence, it comes as no surprise that he might want a move back to Italy, although during the latter stages of the window, Premier League sides could also be looking to sign him.
