Tottenham reportedly remain confident of securing the services of Dominic Solanke before the summer transfer window shuts down.
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly confident that Dominic Solanke is eager to join their ranks, despite needing Bournemouth to lower their asking price to finalise the move before the transfer deadline. According to GIVEMESPORT, Spurs are actively pursuing Solanke but are reluctant to meet his £65 million release clause.
Tottenham have been busy in the transfer market, recently adding Archie Gray to their squad for up to £30 million following Leeds United’s failure to secure Premier League promotion. Additionally, Timo Werner has rejoined Tottenham on a loan deal with an £8.5 million purchase option from RB Leipzig. Despite these acquisitions, technical director Johan Lange and chairman Daniel Levy are keen to bolster their attacking options further.
Postecoglou is on board
Solanke enjoyed a stellar 2023/24 campaign, scoring 21 goals and helping Bournemouth avoid relegation in Andoni Iraola’s first season as manager. This impressive form has caught the attention of Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, who is eager to add the striker to his squad.
Tottenham value Solanke at around £50 million. However, Bournemouth are in a strong negotiating position due to Solanke’s £70,000-per-week contract, which has three years remaining. Tottenham’s interest in the England international has grown over the past two months, but they face financial constraints, especially with Richarlison still on their books.
Financial Hurdles
Tottenham’s efforts to sign Solanke are complicated by Richarlison’s presence, as his departure would free up significant funds for reinvestment. Richarlison’s £130,000-per-week wages, coupled with his substantial contract, create a financial burden that Tottenham must navigate.
Spurs are hopeful that Solanke might push for a move, putting pressure on Bournemouth to accept a lower fee. However, sources suggest that Tottenham might not be able to make a formal offer without first offloading Richarlison. Should an opportunity arise, Tottenham may offer a lower amount than Solanke’s release clause, including favourable payment terms, to secure the deal without overstretching their budget.
Moreover, Bournemouth also agreed to a 20% sell-on clause when they landed Solanke from Liverpool. With a part of the fee set to go the Reds, it remains to be seen just how much the Cherries are willing to negotiate.
Tottenham’s pursuit of Solanke makes sense given his recent form and potential to strengthen their attack. However, the financial complexities involving Richarlison’s contract pose a significant challenge. If Tottenham can manage their wage bill and negotiate effectively with Bournemouth, securing Solanke could be a pivotal move for the club.
