Newcastle United attacking sensation Anthony Gordon is keen on joining rivals Liverpool ahead of next season.
According to a report from Football Insider, Anthony Gordon could look to force a move to Liverpool before the end of the transfer window. The English international is a childhood Liverpool fan and he could use every means possible to make a move to Anfield but Newcastle are unlikely to let him leave on the cheap.
Gordon was a part of the Liverpool youth setup back in the day. Things didn’t work out for him there and he was released back when he was 11. He ended up joining rivals Everton and came up their ranks before securing a £45 million move to Newcastle United in the winter of 2023.
The 23-year-old winger had an exceptional season last time out as he was involved in 48 matches and ended up contributing towards 23 goals (12 goals,11 assists). He was Newcastle’s player of the year and on the back of his performances, he even made it to the England squad for the Euros.
Anthony Gordon’s uncertain future
While he is currently on holiday, people around St James’ Park have their doubts about his future at the club amidst interest from Liverpool. Both clubs were in talks about a potential part-exchange deal back in June. But, the deal collapsed as Newcastle were interested in doing business only if Jarell Quansah was made a part of the deal. The Reds were not interested in letting go of their defensive sensation.
They did fail with an attempt to sign him but the Reds’ interest in his services remains intact. The lifelong Liverpool fan has been captivated by the allure of the Merseyside giants whose interest is quite concrete as well as active.
A player-exchange deal is still on the cards as the Reds are ready to offer Joe Gomez to ease the path to Gordon’s signature. The player is keen on a move to the Merseyside club which is surely a huge boost for them. But, the Magpies are prepared to do everything in their power to keep hold of him.
They are ready to offer him a new deal with improved terms and more importantly, they value him at around £75 million which rises to around £100 million with add-ons. As a result, it surely will be a blockbuster move if the Reds do pull it off.
