West Ham United initiate discussions to sign Niclas Fullkrug

West Ham United are in talks with Borussia Dortmund to sign their attacking ace Niclas Fullkrug before the end of the transfer window.

West Ham United want to reinforce their attack before the start of next season on a priority basis. They want to bring in a new number nine, and Niclas Fullkrug is one of their targets. According to a report from Sky Sports, the Hammers have opened talks with Borussia Dortmund to sign the German international.

The arrival of Luis Guilherme has surely strengthened West Ham’s attack. The 18-year-old will give them a lot more firepower going forward. But his arrival does not really change the fact that they need a new number nine to lead their attack.

Julen Lopetegui’s team do have two strikers in Michail Antonio and Danny Ings. However, both veteran forwards are well past their prime. Antonio is 34, and West Ham desperately need to replace him. The Hammers had identified Jhon Duran as an ideal replacement for him.

They were in talks with Aston Villa over a potential transfer. While the West Midlands outfit are ready to sanction his departure, they are looking for a significant fee to part ways with the 20-year-old Colombian sensation.

Since West Ham have not been able to agree terms with Aston Villa for his transfer, they have decided to shift their attentions elsewhere, and Borussia Dortmund’s Niclas Fullkrug is one of the names on their radar.

While Fullkrug might be 31, he is still going very strong. The experienced striker joined Borussia Dortmund last summer and in his debut campaign for the Bundesliga  giants, he scored 15 goals and bagged 10 assists in his 43 outings, guiding them to the final of the UEFA Champions League.

Niclas Fullkrug’s performances have put him on the radar of the Hammers who feel he could be a great short-term solution for their attack. They have been in talks with Dortmund as they look to discuss the conditions of a deal. With two years still left on his deal, the German club do have the upper hand. However, Fullkrug seems open to a move to West Ham. As a result, personal terms should not be a problem.
