Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race for the services of Arsenal and Real Madrid goalkeeping target Joan Garcia.
According to a report from ElDesmarque, Tottenham are front-runners in the pursuit of the services of RCD Espanyol shot-stopper Joan Garcia. The North London club want more competition for the goalkeeping position and considers the Spanish youth international the ideal fit for the role.
Garcia has had an impressive rise at Espanyol, he was promoted to their first team in the summer of 2021 and has gone from strength to strength since. He managed to break into their starting XI in the second half of last season and kept Fernando Pacheco restricted to the bench.
Espanyol ready to cash in on Garcia
The 23-year-old had quite a few impressive performances in the 14 league games that he played and kept up the good work in the playoffs to help Espanyol return to the top flight. While he could be a great long-term option in goal for them, the Rastar group is looking to sanction his sale before a change in ownership.
As he still has four years left on his deal, the Spanish club are holding out on the €25 million release clause or a very similar figure for his sale. Real Madrid are one of the clubs who have been keeping a close eye on the shot-stopper.
While Andriy Lunin did an exceptional job for Los Blancos, his future at the club is uncertain as he does not intend to be a backup to Thibaut Courtois. With Lunin likely to be on the move, Madrid are looking at Garcia as open to strengthen the position. They see him as a cover for Courtois as well as someone who can replace the Belgian in the long run.
But, Madrid will face stiff competition from Arsenal and Tottenham. David Raya’s arrival saw Aaron Ramsdale go down the pecking order. The English international now seeks a move away in search of regular first-team action and Garcia could be a great option for them.
Tottenham front-runners for Garcia
However, the report suggests that Tottenham are the ones leading the race for his services. The North London club want to sign a shot-stopper who can compete with Guglielmo Vicario for a place in the starting XI. Spurs believe the Espanyol goalkeeper could do wonders for them.
They have already established contact with the Catalan club as they look to prise Garcia away. Given his price tag, Spurs can surely go after him. As a result, Arsenal and Madrid will have to hurry if they want him.
