West Ham United are considering offering their defensive mainstay Kurt Zouma in a deal to bring Jean-Clair Todibo to the club.
According to a report from HITC, West Ham United are keen on reinforcing their backline ahead of next season. They want to sign a new centre-back on a priority basis and have been working on a potential deal to bring Jean-Clair Todibo. While they have not succeeded yet, the Hammers are considering offering Kurt Zouma as a part of the deal to make things easier.
Things might not have worked out for Todibo at Barcelona, but the move to Nice has helped him revive himself. He has gone from strength to strength since joining the French club in 2021. While he still has three years left on his deal with them, multiple top clubs are looking to prise him away.
Manchester United were closing in on his signature but UEFA rules stand in their way as both clubs have the same ownership and are playing in the same European competition next season. While the Red Devils are looking to find a way out, Nice won’t be waiting for them and would be happy to accept an offer of £35 million with add-ons taking the overall fee to £40 million.
West Ham offer Zouma in a deal to sign Todibo
West Ham United are keen on signing the 24-year-old centre-back. The Hammers had one of the worst defensive records last season and to improve the situation, Julen Lopetegui wants to sign a new world-class centre-back. The London club submitted an offer worth £25 million for the French international, but that offer has been knocked back.
Despite suffering an upset, they have not given up yet. West Ham have been in talks with Nice regarding a transfer and during those talks, they have offered the French club the chance to sign Zouma in a potential swap deal.
While the 29-year-old has been one of their mainstays at the back, his future at the club is uncertain with his contract running out next summer. As a result, offering the former Chelsea defender in a deal to bring Todibo to the club does make sense.
Zouma could consider a return to France if an opportunity presented itself having already turned down a move to the Middle East. But, his wages could become a major stumbling block to any deal progressing.
