Bayern Munich defensive star Matthijs de Ligt is ready to lower his wages in order to secure a move to Manchester United.

According to a report from Fussball.News, Matthijs de Ligt is keen on reuniting with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United and he is willing to take pay-cut in order to make a move to Old Trafford. The Bayern Munich centre-back is expected to be on the move this summer and the English club could be an ideal destination for him.

De Ligt arrived at the German club in the summer of 2022. While there were a lot of expectations from the former Ajax skipper, the move hasn’t really gone according to plan for him. He has struggled with injuries and hasn’t really been that consistent.

While there are still three years left on his deal at the club, Bayern are ready to negotiate his departure and there is interest in his services from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on signing as they look to reinforce their backline in the summer following the departure of Raphael Varane as a free agent.

United were keen on signing Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite but with their initial offer of £35 million plus add-ons turned down and the Toffees looking for a massive £70-80 million, the Red Devils feel De Ligt is a more attainable target and they have made him their priority for this window as per a report from Football Insider.

De Ligt wants to reunite with Ten Hag at United

The Manchester-based club have decided to back the Dutch manager for another season at least and he is the one who is pushing hard to sign De Ligt. The 24-year-old had a sensational rise at Ajax under the guidance of Erik ten Hag. He is now keen on reuniting with his former manager at United and has already given the green light to a potential move.

In order to make things happen, he is ready to lower his wages. He currently earns around €15 million a year at Munich while the Manchester-based club want to keep his wages below €1 million per month. Despite that, the former Ajax academy graduate is ready to make the move.

The Red Devils are willing to pay around €40 million for the Dutch international. While the German club initially wanted well over €50 million, they now seem willing to let him leave for a total package of €50 million. A potential transfer could have a high base amount with bonuses.
