Jean-Clair Todibo is keen on a switch to Manchester United despite the complications surrounding the deal and West Ham United’s interest.
According to HITC, Jean-Clair Todibo wants to join Manchester United despite the complications involved in concluding any deal. UEFA rules have prevented the Red Devils from completing this transfer, which has allowed other clubs like West Ham United to express their interest in the £40 million-rated defender.
Jean-Clair Todibo wants Manchester United to move
Manchester United are in the market for at least two new central defenders, and there is a firm belief that INEOS could sanction sales for Victor Lindelof and even Harry Maguire if that happens. They also need to bring in a replacement for the departed Raphael Varane, with Matthijs de Ligt their priority target.
Irrespective of the deal for the Dutchman, Manchester United are keen to bring another notable name, with Jean-Clair Todibo as their preferred target. However, there are complications in any deal, as UEFA rules prevent clubs under the same ownership in the same competition, which in this instance is the Europe League, from being involved in internal deals.
Manchester United are exploring legal avenues, which could see them knock on the doors of the CAS, although these processes could take time. While Todibo would prefer a move to Manchester United, the impasse and complications have allowed other interested parties to make their presence felt, including West Ham, who have already failed with a £25 million bid for the defender.
OGC Nice and INEOS would not mind Todibo at Old Trafford, although the route is rather difficult. Should a transfer to Manchester United not materialise, they may not be able to hold on to the player for much longer and could sell him regardless this summer.
OGC Nice want £40 million for Todibo
West Ham’s £25 million bid that OGC Nice rejected at least showed how much the French club sought for the transfer of Todibo. They want at least £40 million to sell the 24-year-old Frenchman, and knowing there is significant Premier League interest, they have no reason to offload him for less.
Hence, as a deal with Manchester United seems less likely at this stage, West Ham could still have a chance to get the defender. However, they will still have to pay up what’s required to get the deal with Nice in place, which should cost them £40 million at the very least.
