Everton are ready to battle it out with Barcelona for the signature of Hull City attacking sensation Jaden Philogene.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Everton have entered the race for the services of Jaden Philogene who has attracted a lot of interest following an impressive season with Hull City in the Championship. Barcelona are one of the clubs who are interested, and the Toffees are all set to rival them in the pursuit of the English winger.
Philogene came up the ranks at Aston Villa. While he did make it to their first team, he parted ways with his childhood club in search of regular first-team action last summer. The decision to move to a second-division team in England seems to have worked out in his favour as there is significant interest in him following an impressive season.
He featured in 32 league games for the Tigers and managed to contribute towards 18 goals. Philogene was a constant threat for the opposition coming in from the left flank, and he ended up finding the back of the net on 12 occasions.
While his contract with Hull City runs until the summer of 2026, multiple clubs are looking to prise him away this summer. The 22-year-old’s performances have put him on the radar of Tottenham, while West Ham United are considering making a move for his services.
Meanwhile, Barcelona have been tracking his progress for a long time and they have been offered the chance to sign him ahead of next season as they look to add depth on the flanks. But, it seems Everton are willing to rival the Catalan giants.
Everton step up their pursuit of Philogene
The Merseyside club did manage to survive the drop last season despite being handed a points deduction because of a FFP breach. Now, they are planning to strengthen their squad by making the best possible signings on a limited budget.
Everton do not have enough firepower in attack and in order to strengthen the flanks, they are looking to sign Jaden Philogene from Hull City. The Toffees have stepped up their pursuit in recent weeks and are willing to submit an offer worth £16 million to prise him away from the Tigers who bought him for around £5 million 12 months back.
While Everton are ready to table an offer, they will surely not find it easy to sign him given the number of clubs that are interested in the 22-year-old. More importantly, Aston Villa are understood to have a sell-on clause as well as a buy-back option.
