Manchester United face tall order in Eddie Howe chase due to strained Newcastle United relations.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United are interested in the services of Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United’s top priority is to reinforce their defence ahead of next season and they are interested in the services of Matthijs de Ligt. Erik ten Hag is a huge admirer of the Dutch centre-back and wants to reunite with him at Old Trafford.

The duo were together at Ajax back in the day and did enjoy a lot of success together. De Light had an impressive rise under the Dutch manager and he was the skipper of his team as a teenager. He then made the move to Juventus which didn’t really go according to plan and things haven’t been that great at Bayern Munich either.

He has been a part of the German club since the summer of 2022. While he was a regular feature in their starting XI during his first season at the club, he struggled with injuries and could only manage just over 1,900 minutes of first-team football.

De Ligt could leave Bayern Munich?

De Ligt still has three years left on his contract with Bayern Munich but there is a possibility of him parting ways this summer if there is a suitable offer. The 24-year-old is currently focused on doing his best at the Euros and he is expected to hold crunch talks with the German club over his future after the end of the continental tournament.

Manchester United are one of the clubs that remain interested in the Dutch defender. The Red Devils want to reinforce their back line after having a tough time dealing with injuries to key defenders last season. Raphael Varane has already left the club and a few others could follow him on the way out.

United pushing for De Ligt, value him at €50 million

United are looking to reshape their defence and are expected to make multiple signings at the back ahead of next season. Matthijs de Ligt is one of the names that has been discussed internally alongside Jarrad Branthwaite and Leny Yoro.

Erik ten Hag is the one who seems keen on adding De Ligt to his squad. He is a huge admirer of the 24-year-old having seen him up close back in the day. The Dutch manager feels he could help solve quite a few issues at the back and is pushing for his signature.

The Red Devils value him at around €50 million at this stage. While Manchester United haven’t submitted an offer yet, they have already set their valuation for the Ajax academy graduate.
