West Ham United are keen on Serhou Guirassy, as Julen Loptegui wants to add a prolific goalscorer ahead of the new season.
According to Football Insider, Serhou Guirassy features in a four-man striker shortlist drawn out by West Ham United and new boss Julen Lopetegui. The Spaniard remains keen to add a prolific goalscorer to his squad, with the 30-goal Bundesliga star seen as an ideal addition both financially and on the sporting side.
West Ham United are vying for Serhou Guirassy
Adding a new prolific striker is probably the most demanding job in football transfers, as every club certainly needs a player of that profile in their squad. West Ham are no different, as new boss Julen Loptegui wants a centre-forward to provide his otherwise goal-shy team with more ammunition upfront.
Michail Antonio could be gradually pushed out, while Lopetegui might shun the idea of playing Jarrod Bowen in the central role once and for all. Hence, there’s a significant need for a striker, and the Hammers have reportedly drawn up a four-man shortlist ahead of the summer window.
Among them is Serhou Guirassy, the 30-goal Bundesliga star who propelled Stuttgart out of nowhere and into next season’s Champions League. The Guinea forward also has a modest £17.5 million release clause, which has many clubs scrambling for his signature, with Tottenham also keen on signing him.
West Ham even tried to sign him in January alongside Manchester United, and with the latter now out of the running, Loipetegui’s side might have a good shot at the Bundesliga star. The problem is not paying the modest release clause but convincing Guirassy that the London Stadium is the right place for him, as the striker seems intent on moving to the Premier League.
West Ham’s striker shortlist
Apart from Guirassy, three more names feature on West Ham’s shortlist. The club are reportedly ready to intensify their efforts to sign Youssef En-Nesyri, with the Sevilla forward prepared for a new challenge and Lopetegui knowing him very well from his days in Seville.
Then there’s Ivan Toney, with the Brentford star probably the most costliest of the lot among the four other forwards West Ham want. The last name here is that of Ademola Lookman, fresh from helping Atalanta win the Europa League crown after a hattrick in the Final against the then-unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen side.
