Real Betis have held formal talks with Tottenham Hotspur for the services of Argentine attacking midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.
According to a report from El Mira, Real Betis are keen on re-signing Giovani Lo Celso ahead of next season. The attacking midfielder seems to be surplus to requirements at Tottenham and the Spanish club are looking to make the most out of the situation.
Lo Celso’s time at Tottenham will end soon
Giovani Lo Celso joined Spurs back in the summer of 2019 from Real Betis. It was an initial loan deal which became permanent in the following summer. The North London club forked out a significant fee to have him at their disposal. Unfortunately, the move has not gone as expected as the 28-year-old has failed to establish himself in the English club.
He has already had multiple loan spells in Spanish in recent years. While he was a part of Ange Postecoglou’s squad for the 2023/24 season, the Argentine international was way down the pecking order. He was involved in as many as 24 games across competitions but was on the pitch for less than 600 minutes in total.
The 28-year-old is frustrated by the lack of minutes and is looking for a move away from the club. Meanwhile, Tottenham are also looking to reinforce their squad in the summer, and they are ready to sanction a few departures to raise funds.
Real Betis keen on Giovani Lo Celso
Lo Celso’s contract runs out in a year. As a result, this could be the ideal opportunity to recoup some part of what they had invested to sign him. With Spurs considering offloading him, Real Betis have emerged as a potential destination.
The Spanish club are all set to undergo a major rebuild with quite a few of their star players leaving. They are looking to ensure they bring in the right replacement. Lo Celso is one of their targets as they look to maintain their levels in the midfield, with Nabil Fekir expected to be on the move.
Real Betis have already held official meetings with Tottenham as they look to bring the Argentine back to the club. While the London club’s economic demands will make things difficult for them, the Spanish are determined to acquire his services and they feel Lo Celso’s desire to return could help them strike a deal with Spurs.
