Barcelona yet to make offer to Thiago Alcantara

Barcelona are reportedly interested in appointing Thiago Alcantara as an assistant to Hansi Flick but are yet to make an offer.

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara could make a return to Barcelona ahead of next season. The club are considering having him as an assistant to Hansi Flick. But, the player does not want to end his career yet and wishes to continue playing.

Thiago’s move to Liverpool

Thiago Alcantara came up the ranks at Barcelona and was a part of their first team for two years before making the move to Bayern Munich. After a successful spell at the German club, he ended up joining Liverpool in the summer of 2020.

Unfortunately, the move to the English club has not really gone according to plan. The Spanish international has struggled with injuries. The 2023/24 season was a nightmare for Thiago as he could only be on the pitch for five minutes.

He is only 33 and might still have a few years left in him. But, his injury-prone conditions have made things difficult for him. His contract at Liverpool is all set to run out in a month, and the club have already confirmed his departure.

While the player wishes to continue playing and there is significant interest in his services, he could soon have a huge decision to make as Barcelona are interested in making him an important part of their new project.

Barcelona want Thiago as an assistant manager

With Xavi’s departure, Hansi Flick is now all set to lead the club. The report suggests that people at the club want Flick to have an assistant who knows the people at the club and can help him with languages. More importantly, someone is about to finish his career.

Thiago Alcantara is a name that has come up and they have already approached him. Barcelona feel he could be a great addition to their bench. He has succeeded at a high level in multiple countries. The Spanish international is one of their very own, and he knows the club inside having come up their ranks.

Thiago will be a free agent in a month, and while he has the desire to continue playing, he has not made a decision yet. Barcelona are interested in having him on their bench but they haven’t put forward an offer yet. Even if they do offer him the role in the coming days, they will have to convince him to hang up his boots as he wishes to continue playing.
