Tottenham Hotspur plan to hold on to Radu Dragusin

Tottenham close to securing priority option for future Johnny Cardoso deal.

Tottenham are planning to hold talks with Radu Dragusin and his agent after the latter’s comments, with the club unlikely to let him leave.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham are set to hold talks with Radu Dragusin to clarfy key elements about his future. The Romanian defender’s agent made some comments that created concerns over his immediate future at the club, although the Spurs are hopeful of keeping him.

Tottenham plans Radu Dragusin talks

Radu Dragusin was one of the big transfer stories at Tottenham during the January window. The north Londoners fought hard to sign the Romanian defender in the winter window and eventually got their man despite intense competition from other rivals, including Bayern Munich.

The defender has yet to settle in well, making only three starts so far under Ange Postecoglou, who has preferred Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero as his preferred centre-back partnership. Hence, Dragusin has yet to have a clear chance to impress since joining, as his agent’s recent comments did create some concerns about his future.

He recently said, “I can say that if Postecoglou told Dragusin that he is only considered an alternative to the other centre-backs, then he would not stay just to sit on the bench. If he doesn’t play, then we have to think about other solutions.”

There’s interest from Napoli in the defender, as they are open to bringing him back to Serie A. It might be a tempting proposition should Napoli make a big offer, with Spurs reportedly demanding around double what they paid Genoa.

Tottenham has planned talks with Dragusin and his agent in a bid to resolve his immediate future. They are not keen to let him leave immediately, as Postecoglou has big plans for the future with the 22-year-old on his side ahead of next season.

Dragusin expected to stay

Despite his agent’s comments about a possible summer exit, the report expects Dragusin to stay put and continue to grow under Postecoglou. The defender has not had the best of times since joining the Premier League.

Dragusin will aim to break into Postecoglou’s starting lineup next season and, hence, is open to staying put. The chances of him leaving in future windows remain a possibility if his situation remains the same between the start of next season and January.
