Arsenal keeping tabs on Jason Steele

Arsenal and Chelsea told to pay £65 million for Ivan Toney.

Arsenal are interested in acquiring the services of Brighton shot-stopper Jason Steele with Aaron Ramsdale’s departure on the cards.

According to a report by The Standard, Arsenal are looking to reinforce the goalkeeping position in the upcoming transfer window and they have their eyes set on Jason Steele. The Gunners are preparing for life without Aaron Ramsdale who is expected to push for a move away from the club.

Ramsdale to leave Arsenal?

The English international was the undisputed starter at Arsenal until last season. But, a lot has changed during the ongoing campaign following the arrival of David Raya.

Ramsdale has lost his starting place to the Spanish international. Mikel Arteta has preferred Raya throughout and his loan move is all set to become permanent in the upcoming summer following his impressive performances.

The 25-year-old former Sheffield United goalkeeper seeks regular first-team action which he is unlikely to get at the North London club. As a result, he is expected to be on the move.

Arsenal interested in signing Jason Steele

With Ramsdale likely to leave, the Gunners are looking for a new shot-stopper who can be their backup going forward. They are looking to bring in a homegrown goalkeeper to help comply with Premier League’s squad rules. With multiple homegrown players’ futures at the club uncertain, they want to ensure they meet the criteria.

While they are keen on bringing Wojciech Szczesny back to the club, a deal looks quite complicated. The former Arsenal academy graduate earns a hefty fee at Juventus and he is still their number one, as a result, he might not want to be a number two at the North London club.

As a result, Arteta’s team are looking at Brighton’s Jason Steele. The 33-year-old is one of the names on the Gunners’ list and they have been monitoring him of late. He has rotated Bart Verbruggen this season and has done a decent in goal.

While his contract with the Seagulls runs until the summer of 2026, the Gunners are considering making a move for him as they feel he could be an ideal cover for David Raya going forward.
