Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to sanction the departure of their Welsh defensive star Ben Davies in the summer.
According to a report by Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up for an important transfer window where they are expected to make wholesale changes to their squad. While the focus will be on signing top-quality stars, a number of their senior player will be shown the door, and Ben Davies is one of them.
The report states that Spurs are ready to listen to offers for the services of the 86-cap Welsh international. The 31-year-old utility man is surplus to requirements and with his contract running out in the summer of 2025, they will look to cash in on him in the summer.
Postecoglou seeks changes in his squad
Ange Postecoglou had an incredible start to life in North London. Tottenham were flying high at the start of the season under his leadership, and he won the Manager of the Month award in August and September. But things have not been that great in the recent weeks. Spurs have lost their last four league games, and they are all set to miss out on Champions League football for next season.
Following their recent dip in form, the Australian boss has publicly claimed that there will be major changes to his squad in the summer. A lot of players who are not in his plans moving ahead will be sold and quite a few signings will made. In short, a huge overhaul is being planned to give him the players needed to effectively play his brand of football.
Ben Davies to leave Tottenham?
Davies is one of the players who is no longer a part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans. The 31-year-old arrived at the club back in 2014 from Swansea City and has featured in over 300 matches for the club. While he prefers playing as a left-back, the 86-cap Welsh international has often featured in the heart of the defence for them.
Davies has been a great servant for the club with his ability to play as a centre-back and a left-back. But his time in North London will most likely come to an end in the summer. The veteran utility man, who has 86 caps for Wales, is currently sidelined with a calf injury. But even when he was fully fit, he was not really a preferred choice at the back.
While Davies has been used in 19 matches this term, Postecoglou does not count on him for the long run, and Tottenham have decided to sanction his departure with just over a year left in his current deal.
