Sheffield United keen on Ashley Phillips

Sheffield United are interested in acquiring the services of 18-year-old Tottenham Hotspur defensive sensation Ashley Phillips.

According to a report by The Sun, Sheffield United are looking to reinforce their defence in the upcoming summer transfer window and they have their eyes on Ashley Phillips. The teenager has had an impressive season and they are interested in having him in their ranks.

Ashley Phillips’ impressive rise

Phillips came up the ranks at Blackburn, his impressive rise caught the attention of Tottenham who acquired his services ahead of the ongoing season. Since Ange Postecoglou couldn’t find a place for him in his team during the first six months they decided to send him out on loan in the winter.

He joined Plymouth in the English second division in search of first-team action to continue his development. The teenager has featured in 18 matches for the Championship club and has racked up over 1,400 minutes since joining them in January. He has put in impressive performances and his efforts haven’t gone unnoticed.

While he will return to his parent club in the summer, he is unlikely to have a prominent role under the Australian boss next season. As a result, they could look for another loan move and Sheffield United are a club interested in having the teenage sensation in their ranks.

Sheffield United pushing for Ashley Phillips

United are not in the best of situations, they are rock bottom in the Premier League and relegation looks like the most likely outcome. On top of that, their financial situation isn’t good either. If they do go down, they will take a major financial hit and a few of the players could also leave. But, they will still have to reinforce their squad to push for an immediate return.

One of the major problems for them this season has been their defence as they have conceded 84 goals in 32 league games. They want to bring in someone who can help improve the situation and the club feels signing Phillips on loan could be a back-changer for them.

They won’t have to fork out a fortune to sign the teenager on loan and given the kind of performances he has put in, his arrival will surely bolster their ranks.
