Manchester United are all set to part ways with their 30-year-old defensive star Raphael Varane in the upcoming summer.
According to a report by Give Me Sport, Manchester United are not planning to offer Raphael Varane a new deal. The Red Devils are looking to part ways with the former French international, who has not had the best of times since joining the club in the summer of 2021.
Varane arrived at Manchester United after proving himself at Real Madrid. The French centre-back had won it all during his time at the Spanish club, and he was regarded as one of the best defenders in the world. The Red Devils forked out a significant fee to sign him from Los Blancos.
In order to convince the World Cup winner to join the Manchester-based club, they ended up offering him staggering wages of £340,000 per week. According to the report, his deal at Old Trafford runs out this summer, and they have no plans of offering him a new contract.
Raphael Varane’s time at Manchester United
Varane has not been able to have the kind of impact everyone expected him to have. The experienced defender has struggled with injuries, and his form in general has not been good enough. Since joining the club, he has only featured in 93 matches.
The 30-year-old has not had a single injury-free season and his levels have also dropped. He picked up an injury in their outing against Chelsea and is also set to be out for a few weeks.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils are expected to make major changes to the backline in the summer. They are likely to part ways with a few of their senior players who are on lofty wages and bring in young defenders who can help them in the long run.
Varane is one of the players they are looking to part ways with. His wage demands are way too high and his performances have not been great, as a result, they won’t offer him a new deal despite his current contract expiring in the summer.
