Tottenham Hotspur leading race to sign Morgan Gibbs-White

Tottenham close to securing priority option for future Johnny Cardoso deal.

Tottenham Hotspur are front runners for the signatures of 24-year-old Nottingham Forest attacking midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White.

According to a report by Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are looking at ways to bolster their squad ahead of next season. They are keen on acquiring the services of Morgan Gibbs-White and have been scouting him for a long while now.

Gibbs-White’s time at Nottingham Forest

Gibbs-White was a part of Wolverhampton Wanderers since his childhood days. He came up the ranks and made it to their first team in the winter of 2017. The 24-year-old attacking midfielder had multiple loan spells before eventually parting ways with the club in the summer of 2022.

Nottingham Forest forked out a reported fee of £42.5 million including add-ons to bring him to the club. The English midfielder has been a consistent performer ever since he made the move. While the Tricky Trees are struggling for survival in the Premier League, Gibbs-White has still managed to put in impressive performances.

He has featured in 33 matches and has contributed towards nine goals. His performances haven’t gone unnoticed and Spurs are one of the clubs keen on having him in their ranks. The North London club have been closely monitoring the 24-year-old for the last two years.

Spurs keen on signing the Nottingham star

Their scouts have been quite impressed by him and they feel he is an ideal fit for Ange Postecoglou’s system. Gibbs-White can feature in multiple positions and he could be a great fit for their attacking style of play. And, according to the report, they are in pole position to sign him.

Nottingham are currently fighting for survival. They are in the bottom three and have already suffered a four-point deduction for breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules. They might be forced to sell players if they end up getting relegated or if they are forced to raise funds because of FFP demands.

The 24-year-old is one of their most prized possessions and his departure will help them balance the books. And, relegation will surely result in his departure irrespective of the fact that there are still over three years left on his deal.
