Multiple clubs from across Europe are keen on having the 22-year-old Manchester United winger Mason Greenwood in their ranks.
According to a report by HITC, Manchester United have decided to sanction the departure of Mason Greenwood in the upcoming transfer window. The Red Devils will look to cash in on the 22-year-old outcast who is currently on loan at Spanish club Getafe.
Greenwood came up the ranks at United, he made it to their first team back in the summer of 2019. He made a flying start to his senior career but things went downhill after he was arrested in the winter of 2022.
The 22-year-old was out of football for over a year. While he was clear to return, United decided to keep him out of action until the summer of 2023. They did consider the idea of reinstating him but the backlash received forced them into sending him out on loan.
Greenwood’s resurgence at Getafe
Getafe managed to secure his services and he has since featured in a total of 26 matches. The United winger has contributed with eight goals and five assists.
His impressive performances have attracted a lot of interest from across Europe. While the Red Devils’ new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has talked about the possibility of giving him another go at United, that is unlikely to happen.
According to the report, it was an attempt to strengthen their position on the negotiation table. Before the suitors would have looked to corner the English club and try to strike a cheaper deal. But, with Ratcliffe’s statement, there is a possibility United could get a deal they actually like.
Interest from European giants
Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are two Spanish clubs that have been linked with the 22-year-old. Both clubs watched him in action up close and are looking at him as an option to further bolster their attack.
Meanwhile, even Getafe dream about having him in their ranks for the next season. But, that could only happen if the Red Devils don’t get the kind of offer they are looking for and they decide to once again send him out on loan. But, for that, they will have to trigger the option of extending his contract until the summer of 2026.
