Arsenal set to rival Newcastle United in Amadou Onana race

Arsenal offer €47 million to sign Chelsea target Riccardo Calafiori, told to pay more.

Arsenal are interested in acquiring the services of 22-year-old Everton defensive midfielder Amadou Onana.

According to a report by Football Insider, Arsenal are keen on having Amadou Onana in their ranks. The 22-year-old defensive midfielder has made quite a name for himself with impressive performances for Everton. Those performances haven’t gone unnoticed as he is on the radar of some of the top clubs from across Europe.

Onana made the move to the Merseyside club in the summer of 2020. They forked out £33 million to sign the midfield sensation from LOSC Lille. Since making the move to England, he has featured in a total of 59 matches and has even contributed towards six goals.

His impressive performances have earned him a place in the Belgian national team. While Everton haven’t been at their best in the ongoing season, the 22-year-old has done his bit. He has featured in 24 matches and even has three-goal contributions.

Those performances haven’t gone unnoticed. Newcastle United and Arsenal are two English clubs keen on his signatures. The Magpies are looking to further bolster their squad and they are keen on having the Belgian sensation in their ranks.

Eddie Howe’s team have been scouting him for a while now and they are preparing to make a move in the summer. But, the Magpies could face competition from Arsenal as they have entered the race for his signatures.

The Gunners are keen on having the 22-year-old in their ranks as the transformation of their midfield continues. They are on the lookout for a young defensive midfielder who can pair up with Declan Rice in the centre of the park. Onana seems to be an ideal fit but he is not the only one that Mikel Arteta’s team have been monitoring.

Reports suggest that the Belgian international won’t be Arsenal’s top target in the summer. Meanwhile, reports even suggest that if Everton fail to survive in the English top flight following their 10-point deduction, Onana could be available for a cut-price deal.
